ART Odyssey
Art Odyssey: An Interactive Gallery for all Ages
For the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute Museum of Art, Utica, N.Y.
Opened October 2005
TEA helped the museum’s education staff to realize their vision for a highly interactive space for family exploration. This interactive art exhibition includes a number of activities, including drawing, collage making, using a model to create exhibitions, reading art books, viewing video art pieces (a unique experience in the museum), and looking at paintings from the collection that are presented in large shadowboxes. Working from concepts developed by the museum’s education department, TEA designed and fabricated all furniture for the space, including those pieces with interactive elements or audio visual equipment. The reading area also includes a carpeted reading platform, to facilitate quiet exploration of art books or viewing of the video art presentations. TEA designed vivid graphics for the exhibition, including an introductory panel featuring key works from the museum’s collection and banners designating the thematic/activity units.
